holiday tradition : gingerbread houses

Now that we have the old white bearded man situation figured out - we're focusing on other ways to spend this month-long holiday of lights, music, and all things glittery...

This is also the only time of year when we have the urge to decorate gingerbread houses - Mom first did this with Ava last year when Ava spent the night and bonded with grandma - and she hasn't forgotten. The instructions were less than superb, and between the 4 of us, we figured out to first "separate" the "walls" from its pattern, only to reattach them again using icing - quite literally - thicker than dried glue.

Still - it's nice to purchase a kit with all the ingredients supplied, and the hour flew by. Ava and Noah were very satisfied by their construction {with candy!} and even more so, this was their own way of decorating for the holidays. Our neighborhood street comes alive after dark - but these 2 little homemade homes shine brightly day and night.

  1. The kids were both so excited to show me their houses that day. When i got home Ava pointed out every small detail about hers. She showed me how she stuck the walls together with icing, where all the candy was, and why she put certain colors in certain places. I turned to Noah and asked him about his house and he looked at me with this look of amazement... then paused. I was expecting a similar explanation why he chose the design that he used, but instead he just told me he wanted to eat his.

It does look pretty yummy, but i told him we would need to wait.
